It’s really simple, you get what you put in. A classic idiom with several variations that mean the same thing. Jesus said “You will reap what you sow” An MC motto says “We give what we get” Essentially it’s all about action and reaction.
Life is hard but it doesn’t have to be miserable. Life isn’t going to get any easier or better if we do nothing and try to wait out the hard times and it doesn’t have to break you or be so boring you have to drink or get high just to feel something different.
The key to strength is resistance and no part of life doesn’t reflect that. You can’t expect to get stronger by going to the gym and watching other people lift the weights. No, you have to do the work. Lift the weights, do it again, change up the muscle groups, hydrate, eat right, get enough rest then dial it in.
Sobriety is like that. For an alcoholic like me, I can not just go to meetings and expect to stay sober, like the gym I need to do the work to get the results. I need to get a sponsor, work the steps, connect with God, and help others and I really, really, really need to do that every day. I can’t just go to church or just go to work and the gym. I can’t just not use or drink and if all I do is put the plug in the jog I will remain the mess that needed to drink but has no solution.
So I do the work to get the result that I want out of life. I want to help other people every day so that the world is a little bit better than the one I grew up in. Hopefully, I can inspire others to do the same thing and create a ripple of positive change. Those are the results I am working for and I will end with this. We do the work and GOD provides the results. We are not in control of outcomes but we can control our output so that’s what we do with faith that God’s will is better than our own.
